A great little pub hidden away from the main seaside area. The main garden is at the back, though this was closed for a private function when we visited so we didn’t see it. At the front are tables and chairs on a patio. These were hosting a live folk band. Inside, there is a main bar and a restaurant. There are stone floors, stone walls, an open fire and plenty of rural bric-a-brac scattered around the walls, all of which makes it atmospheric and convivial. There is a small TV screen in the bar, but this was switched off. They offer standard pub food, well cooked and reasonably priced. There were a couple of locals and some CAMRA crawlers in, and despite the music outside it was devoid of grockles who chose to remain in the centre with the four pubs there. The barmaid was friendly and helpful, though we had to explain to her what the CAMRA Ale Trail was, as she hadn’t realised the pub was taking part this year. Ales on were TEA, Exmoor Gold and Dartmoor Legend, all in excellent condition, and available in third-pint paddles as well as pints. There was also a standard selection of keg on tap. I’d be very happy to spend an afternoon or evening here.

A former Somerset CAMRA pub of the year, the Star is a traditional pub tucked away in the centre of Watchet just off the harbour. There is a bar, reastaurant and beer garden out the back and a few table out the front. There are always 6 to 8 real ales from Somerset, the greater westcountry and further afield. Well worth a visit.
