A small roadside pub, the first one you come to as you enter Williton from the South. The Victorian house has a large, untidy garden at the back, but there’s no car park and nothing at the front as it fronts the main road. Inside, there is a bar at the front, a games room at the rear with a pool table, and a restaurant area at the side. The bar is carpeted and feels like someone’s front room, with a cabinet full of sports trophies and a TV screen showing horse racing. There is a jukebox in the games room. We were told there is also a skittle alley with its own bar, but this was locked up when we visited. The landlord and customers – all male and of a certain age – were welcoming and happy to engage in some very robust banter and scatological humour, and there was a good convivial atmosphere. Water and treats were provided for our dogs, while we preferred to drink the ale options which were Otter bright, and Otter Amber. Also available were Shipyard, John Smith’s, Carlsberg, Estrella, Exmoor Cider, Holstein Pils, Thatcher’s Gold and Carling. If you can find somewhere to park it’s worth a visit.
