A tradtional town pub which has the effect of being the opposite ot a TARDIS – it’s smaller inside than it looks from outside. The grand Edwardian house contains a small square bar which is formed from two previous rooms. On the left as you enter past the jukebox it is laid to table for diners, while the right hand side is a public bar-type area with a pool table, dartboard and space for vertical drinking. There is a separate skittle alley ath the back and there is a good sized untidy garden with a children’s play area and a sheltered smoking patio. Live music is hosted here, though given the paucity of space it must get quite cramped. Ales on were Betty Stoggs and Tribute, reasonably well kept and served with a smile by the landlady who was very welcoming. The locals were not too challenging. OK for a quiet pint if you happen to be visiting any of the businesses in Canon Street or going to the cricket.
