Previously The Foresters Arms, this slightly run-down town pub has seen better days and is currently suffering from reduced footfall and increasing costs. Consequently, opening times have been significantly reduced. The entry is via a good sized car park which also allows access to what appears to be chalet accommodation. There is a covered seating area at the side of the pub, but there isn’t much of a traditional garden. Inside, there is a small bar as you enter which leads to a larger bar; both are served from the same servery. The large bar has an inglenook fireplace, a TV screen and a dartboard. There is a mix of sofas, comfy chairs and tables for diners. There is another room off this larger bar, no bar counter, but it appears to be set mainly for diners. It wasn’t busy for a weekend lunchtime, only two locals in, both elderly men who shared their various health problems with us. We were the only other customers. The landlord was chatty enough. There were two cask ales on, Hobgoblin Ruby and one from Glastonbury, both in OK condition. Also on were Guinness, Coors, Carling, Carlsberg, Madri, Shipyard, Estrella, Thatcher’s Gold and Thatcher’s Haze. I do hope this pub sees better days, and I’d be happy to drop in when passing if it’s actually open.
