A pleasantly situated country pub on the edge of the Ham Hill Country Park. Although remote, it is usually busy with walkers and families enjoying the views and the park. The view from the front of the pub is fantastic, far-ranging across the Levels. At the back it’s rather less dramatic, as all you can see is bushes and a car park, but there is a pleasant covered, paved garden area with a barbecue stand and water bowls for dogs. Inside, the stone flooring and low ceilings give it a nostalgic rural feel, and there are two conjoined bar areas for inside eating and drinking. Clientele were mainly walkers, plus on this occasion a large group of Civil Servants, complete with a well-behaved mixed pack of dogs (better behaved than some of the pre-school age children), on an ‘away day’. There were 6 barrels on stillage behind the bar, but only two of them were on. They were dispensing DBC’s Durdle Dor and Yeovil’s Somerset Ale, both beers in excellent condition. There was also a boxed local cider on the bar. It’s a really pleasant place with good food and beer, if you can put up with the crowds.

Above average country pub with a good welcome and efficient service. Always got a range of decent ales on stillage, so many Brownie points for that. On the downside, far too many of my two pub dislikes - screaming kids and wet dogs.

Recent visit on a Sunny Sunday evening so just a top up review - very busy with walkers and dogs enjoying the day. Beers: two from teignworthy (Amy's Ale and a rugby one) and Hereford Dark. Still excellent

Isolated pub on top of the Ham Hill country park with fine views over towards Yeovil and South Somerset. The position is the attraction though and the pub matches it's situation. Good food served and beer as it should be - straight off the barrel on a stillage behind the bar. There was a Hop Back and Yeovil Ales Star Gazer which was excellent. The landlord was friendly and we had a laugh with him, good to see someone who seems to enjoy running a pub these days!
