Recently reopened, and in the process of being redecorated, this friendly village pub is well worth seeking out. There is a large car park from which you walk through a tidy, pleasant garden with plenty of bench seating, past the skittle alley, to get to the entrance. At the road end is the dining room which has been mostly renovated and feels a bit sterile, while the main bar is tired and ready for a makeover to remove the grubby 1970s artex on the walls and ceiling, though it opens out into an airy, light conservatory which is much more pleasant. Decor aside, it's a very welcoming, friendly pub with a knowledgeable and an enthusiastic junior barman. Four ales on, three from Butcombe and a guest. Beer was in excellent condition, well kept and enjoyable, while the hospitality was convivial. There was no WiFi, and the pub's website was a 404, so they haven't yet joined the Dot Com age. I'd be very happy to come back here anytime.

Excellent country pub with a warm, friendly welcome and excellent waiter service. Well kept ales; London Pride, Butcombe Bitter and Butcombe Rare Breed. The menu is quite extensive, the portions generous and the value very good. Millions of extra Brownie points for the wonderful hand-cut chips - it seems most places aren't able to cook a decent chip these days, but these were exceptionally good. Other Brownie points awarded for linen napkins, sauces in individual dishes (not those dreadful sachets!) and salt and pepper in grinders. £35 for scampi and gammon meals, two separate side salads, two pints and two large glasses of wine = excellent value.
