E TA left this review about Britannia Inn

A rare find, this Victorian back street corner pub is unspoiled and mostly original. It looks a bit shabby from the front, but once inside it’s a different story. The back garden is well kept and mostly pleasant, though it does include a smoking area. Inside, the three original public rooms have been kept. On the left as you enter is the public bar with a pool table. On the right is the saloon, a carpeted seating area with exposed timbers, a Victorian fire insert, stained glass over the bar counter and a collection of wall-mounted horse brasses. There is also a dining room at the back, neatly laid to table, and apparently a skittle alley and function room, though we didn’t get to see either of these. The landlady was cheery, while the other customers, exclusively locals when we visited, were tolerant. Two ales on, Old Golden Hen and Old Speckled Hen, both in good condition, though neither would have been my first choice if there were alternatives. Also available were Old Mout, Inch’s Cider, San Miguel, Guinness, Thatcher’s Gold, Level Head, Carling, Estrella and Stella. The restaurant food was good value, standard pub fare, though the bar snacks menu was less impressive, consisting of over-priced modern calory-stodge. It’s worth a visit, though parking is problematic.
