A large red brick village pub with a real family feel. There is a large car park at the side. There are two main garden areas, one at the front, one at the back. The back garden is particularly pleasant and has tables where you can eat in better weather. Inside, the downstairs rooms have been opened out a bit, though leaving the chimneys and some structural timbers. There is an inglenook at one end, a Victorian fireplace and a woodburner, and the floors are mainly carpeted except around the bar counter area. It all feels very cosy. On arrival we received an enthusiastic welcome from the landlady, treated more like long lost friends than strangers. Food was a standard pub menu at average prices, locally sourced and well cooked. Ales on were Pride and Butcombe Original, both in good condition. Also available were Thatcher’s cider and Moretti lager plus one or two other megas. A decent local and a welcoming place to stop for a meal.
