A traditional village local in a 17th Century house that has been refurbished in recent years, which involved knocking the downstairs rooms into a single L-shaped bar which extends into an extension at the back. There is a new tiled floor, and the low ceilings have exposed timbers, while original fireplaces have been restored, one of them having a Victorian insert. It feels bright and airy, making for a convivial drinking place, especially as the TV sitting on the bar was switched off. On arrival, we felt slightly uncomfortable as everyone turned and stared at us, but once they realised we were human, people were quite pleasant. There is no hot food available. Ales on were Doombar and Sharp’s Manu Bay, both in good condition, and there was a real cider on draft. There’s a small garden at the back and some bench seating at the front as well as a few parking spaces. It’s a bit out of the way, and opening times are limited, but it’s worth dropping in if you happen to be here while they’re open.
