E TA left this review about The Vine Tree
A large roadside pub on the way into Frome from the East. There is a large car park and a paved garden at the side, with signs making it clear that children are not permitted in either the pub or the garden. Inside, the ground floor bar has been formed through substantial renovation and conjunction to form a large irregular space with a bar counter at one side and laminate flooring, plus a few exposed timbers that seem a bit out of place here. There is a pool table, a large TV showing Sky Sports, and there are gaming machines. The TV was mute, instead the sound system was belting out some truly awful MOBO. At one end is a large brick fireplace in a smaller comfortable area while a second fireplace at the far end is faced by two Chesterfield sofas positioned such that the dartboard is next to them, presumably making it slightly hazardous to sit their as darts will be flying overhead. There are various tables and seating arrangements, and there is plenty of circulation space for socialising. Some stained glass panels have been retained above the bar counter. There is a function room – The Tree House – on the first floor, but we didn’t venture up there. Apparently food is on offer, but we weren’t sure what, and the barman was a bit vague about it. One ale on, Doombar, which was in average condition, while a second handpump dispensed Stan’s Cider. The keg options were Sharp’s Atlantic, John Smith’s, 1664, Guinness, Carling, Pravha, Old Mout, and three from Thatcher’s. Very much a locals’ drinking pub, worth dropping in a for a pint if passing but not somewhere I’d choose to spend an evening.
