Quite a nice old pub just off the main road through the gorge. Its proximity to the tourist attractions of the area makes it less of a village pub than either the Kings Head or the Gardeners Arms, which I also tried out on my recent visit.
The beers available on hand pump were Butcombe Bitter, Wychwood Hobgoblin and St Austell Tribute, and there was also a Cheddar Valley cider available. There's a large choice of meals, which in a small establishment like this means that they're pre-prepared and heated up - confirmed by our meals arriving within five minutes of placing our order.
My Butcombe was fine and the food was reasonably priced, so I wouldn't have any problem revisiting, but I think I preferred the slightly more non-touristy feel of the other two pubs.

Attractive pub just off the gorge, so presumably it can get quite busy with tourists at times. On our recent visit it seemed to be mostly locals. There's a large central bar area with exposed stone walls, a dart board and various food options chalked up above the bar. There's a smaller snug off to the right, although this was closed on our visit. There is a cider festival planned for this weekend, so I may have to pop back!
Beers on this occasion were Bombadier, Butcombe and Tribute. Ciders were Blackthorn, Thatcher's Gold and, rather appropriately, Cheddar Valley.
