A small 17th Century town pub with a paved garden, with what looks like a thatched smoking pavilion, and carpark accessible from the high street and there is a small holiday cottage. Inside, there is a main bar at the front with open-plan access into the raised games room at the back and a small dining room at the side. There is a separate skittle alley at the back. Entertainment in the bars is from darts, a pool table, tv screens and various gaming machines. Food is basic pub grub, plus they do all-day breakfasts. On draft were Stan’s cider, Doombar and Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker. The beers were in good condition. It’s a decent pub, friendly and unpretentious (unlike some other local pubs), and while it doesn’t do the best food or ale in the town, it would probably be my local if I lived here.
