A rather dull seaside pub on a busy high street, mainly used by those incapacitated by weight, age or ignorance. The Victorian corner building houses a single L-shaped bar with mostly wooden flooring and a raised platform, carpeted, in one corner from which karaoke and other torments are delivered on Sundays. It smells like a care home. There is a pool table in one corner next to a Victorian fireplace, there are TV screens showing live sports, a dartboard, gaming machines and an annoyingly loud jukebox. Two handpumps on the bar, but the inept young barman was unable to produce a pint of Landlord from the first as it had run out, though he did eventually succeed in pouring a pint of Abbott from the other, which hadn’t. Life was too short to try the keg range, which consisted of Guinness, John Smith’s, Cruzcampo, Foster’s Brewdog Wingman, Strongbow and Thatcher’s Haze and Gold. Hardly county standard.

A pretty poor pub to be fair. Every time I passed it there was a row of mobility scooters and people with walking sticks happily drinking all day, every day. I called in, in the interests of research, to find no ale. Had a quick Amstel and sat outside listening to the barmaid putting the world to rights with 2 drunken locals whilst having a smoke. To say the language used was colourful would be an understatement! Not for me...

Started with a morning coffee, which was very reasonably priced and from the off the reception was friendly. Returned for lunch which was excellent, really tasty with good quantity and at the special offer price was absolutely fantastic!! Excellent range of lagers and keg beer, topped by three real ales. Memorable!
