The only ‘proper’ pub in Brean, this is also the last one you reach before running out of road. It sits in a large plot with a car park and a paved terrace at the front, though there are no sea or rural views to enjoy here. The pub is entered through a large conservatory which also serves as an amusement arcade and family dining area. Once inside you find a T-shaped bar with two small fire places with a woodburner and an open fire, various gaming machines and TV screens. No bar stools, just dining tables. There is also a small pool room at the back. Its target demographic is holiday makers, so there is no local pub feel, the dominant background sounds being screaming babies and dreadful pop music. Food is cheap pub grub, pizzas and a couple of local specials, all representing reasonable value for money. One ale on, Butcombe Original, which was in good condition. Also available were 7 keg ciders from Thatcher’s, Guinness, Madri, Carling, Fosters and Amstel. A typical seaside pub.
