A working village pub, easily imagined when listening to Bowen’s ‘The Way To Polden’, a genuine local that hasn’t been overrun by tourists. It looks a bit worn from the outside, though the garden appears fairly recently cared for. There is a good sized car park and some bench seating at the front. Inside, the rooms have been partly opened out make for an open, airy yet still comfortable bar area and separate dining room. There is also a skittle alley, and they host live music acts. The bar still has its main chimney breast and inglenook in the middle, though the fireplace is now a stone hearth. Staff were pleasant and there was a warm welcome. Food is basic pub grub, freshly cooked and well priced to give good value for money. There were 2 ales on, Otter Amber and Dartmoor IPA, both in good condition. Worth dropping in for a decent pint and a cheap meal.
