A large traditional town pub in what was once an affluent mercantile area. There is a car park at the side and a large garden at the back which is rather nicer than the view from the tables to the front would suggest. Inside, there is a saloon bar to the left as you enter and a public bar to the right. Both have fireplaces, while the décor in the public bar appears dated and tired, while the saloon is a bit fresher. Both bars have TV screens showing live sports. There is also a skittle alley which is used as a function room. Three ales on, Tribute, Doombar and Butcombe Original, all in good condition. Treats for dogs were available on the bar. It’s a really good traditional pub and worth a visit.
