A rare find, this traditional village pub is just a few yards from the M5 , hidden away but easy enough to find once you know it's there. There's a large car park and a decent sized lawned garden and a paved area. Unfortunately the proximity of the motorway means it's too noisy to enjoy properly. The 18th Century building has been extended and converted, creating a series of open-plan rooms. The main bar has a large fireplace, probably 1960s, but which provides warmth and atmosphere and provides a good focus (no pun intended) for social interaction. There is a small room with a pool table, a dining room and another large bar. Well behaved dogs are welcomed, the locals are friendly and the staff pleasant. Food is freshly cooked and fairly priced. There were 2 ales on, Exmoor Ale and Bath Gem, plus 3 boxed ciders. The ale was in excellent condition. Well worth stopping for a break from the motorway, and I'd be very happy to spend an evening's libation here.
