A very pleasant, traditional town pub with 16th Century roots. There is a car park at the back from which you can enter the pub through a graveled, terraced garden. Alternatively the main door is on the high street, a road which has retained much of its rural character, much like a time warp. The main seating areas are at the front, while the bar counter is on a raised area behind. There is also a dining area at the rear. There are plenty of traditional architectural features, some of them original – stone walls, exposed timbers, a large brick open fireplace at one end of the conjoined bar and a much older fireplace with a woodburner at the other end. The cuisine had a distinctly Mediterranean theme, along with more traditional sandwiches and bar snacks. They also offer B&B. Two ales on, Wye Valley HPA and Proper Job. On keg were Sharp’s Atlantic, Madri, Prahva, Staropramen, three from Thatcher’s, and Guinness. Over all it was a very pleasant experience and I’d be very happy to come back.
