Set down a slope off the main road, this pub has a prettily painted exterior. The interior has a main front bar with large rear dining room and has been overly refurbed which has had the effect of making it feel a bit bare (though the roaring wood fire helped a bit). Noted the collection of Toby Jugs on the windowsill. A good selection om the pumps - 2x Cross Bay, Titanic Plum Porter, Merry Monkey and Wylde Wood cider. Beers were served up by one of the friendliest barmaids I’ve encountered for this year and happily both ales were in extremely good nick. A pretty decent place – a few more creature comforts would really push it up towards premier status. The current owners only took over in the first quarter of 2016 so they are doing well on this showing. 7.5
