The large lounge bar of the Cheshire Cheese was closed during a recent midweek evening visit so myself and the ten or so friendly locals could all be found in the smaller public bar. The L-shaped counter found on the rear wall to the right faces seating across the front windows and a pool table to the left. Crystal Palace v Spurs in the Premier League was being shown on a television with poor quality reception. Probably best that this was muted in favour of some background music. To be honest I found this place to be pretty forgettable. Maybe I’d pop back in if passing, if only to see if the lounge bar was open.

A large two roomed pub on a corner, with the front door on the main road either permanently out of use, or only employed at busy periods when the larger room is in use. The side entrance leads into a smaller public bar, with a pool table, but this room had very little seating and we took our beers through to the other side. It must have been a grand pub when it was busy, but it suffers more than most for being quiet. This was our fifth pub out of seven visited so far where we'd drunk Bass, and the first where it was just plain ordinary. It poured rather frothy and could certainly have done with some more time in the cellar.

The Cheshire Cheese is a sturdy looking bare brick built pub corner pub that is on a busy road to the north of Hanleys centre.
The front door which gives access to the lounge / dining room was closed,so i went in the side entrance which took me into the bar, this was a longish room with the bar to the left, the room was carpeted with very few seats to the left of the entrance, the right side was very busy with locals watching Stoke play some other team, there was a seperate dining room / lounge to the left which was not in use on my mid afternoon visit.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bass which was decent enough the other beer was Taylor Landlord.
I was'nt that impressed with this pub.
