The tile floored main front bar of the wheatsheaf has tartan banquettes across the front windows and a fireplace with burner on the wall next to the angled serving counter right rear. To the left of the counter is a step up to the tile floored rear bar where there’s a dartboard and jukebox that was switched off while the radio played from behind the bar. Televisions in both bars were off, and the pub was empty apart from the polite lady running the show and myself. However, there were a handful of people in the large marquee found towards the rear up the left-hand side of the pub. Available on draught were a premium keg range alongside Carling and Alpacalypse. There are also hand pumps with the cask options being Salopian’s Hop twister, Bristol Beer Factory’s Power Drive and Bishops Castle’s Three Tuns. Yes, I was the only customer in the actual pub, but I got a good vibe so will return when next passing.

As described below though unsure what is the connection with The Beatles?
A half of the Salopian Oracle hit the spot, this is one to include on a crawl.

A trip across the Welsh Bridge from the town centre to reach this Wheatsheaf and to find a decent locals pub with two internal areas as well described by other members of the recent Pubs Galore crawl, so no need to repeat any of that, except to say as well as the framed Beatles album poster in the main room there was a fine framed poster of the Bowie Ziggy Stardust album cover on the pillar between the two interior areas.
Friendly and engaging service levels and four ales on the go made this an enjoyable stop, especially as the Bishops Castle Three Tuns was in fine form.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wheatsheaf
A proper old-fashioned pub with no obvious pretentions, featuring a simply furnished bar at the front and a small, rather bare games room at the back. Quiet when we visited early on a Friday lunchtime, and the place initially had quite a strong odour of cleaning products, but at least the place was clean! All four handpumps in use too, including the local(ish) Three Tuns XXX (£1.65, half).

A nicely upspoilt locals' pub on the Frankwell side of the river, with a room either side of the bar - pool and darts in the rear one. Seems to have regular entertainments judging from the posters. Beers as described below and in fair condition.

A traditional pub with a decent sized lounge area and bar running at an angle towards the rear, plus a small room on the left with a pool table and dart board. This room also had a tiny bar counter in the corner, to order your drinks. The lounge area had a low beam ceiling, which didn't prove hazardous to our taller members of the PG crawl, early in the day. A poster of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Cub Band was displayed under a flat screen TV, in the lounge, plus an Art Gallery across the road had a large painting of the Beatles displayed in the front window. I thought I was down Mathew Street in Liverpool, for a slight moment. I went for the Three Tuns XXX, which was decent, served by a very friendly and welcoming landlady.

Not to be confused with the other Wheatsheaf in the High Street,this one is over the Welsh Bridge in the Frankwell area of town.The exterior shows some very old timber framing,yet the interior has far fewer signs of the buildings age.The side door gives access to the front lounge with a tartan covered seating bench running the full length of the front windows,with traditional tables,while a low roof beam nearer the bar needs care in navigating.The flooring is slate near the bar,carpeted elsewhere.
The bar supports 4 handpumps serving a farmyard perry,Three Tuns XXX,Wye Valley Butty Bach and Salopian Oracle (NBSS 3 once it settled.)
There is a rear games room with just enough room for a darts board and pool table,with a small access servery.One or two seats in there as well.
Sadly a local radio station was playing through the p.a.,but that aside this is a friendly little local.Maybe not a destination pub but worth including on an ale tour of the town .

Two bar locals pub, very traditional all round. Has modern screens & machines stuff and darts. Four pulls in front bar two in that behind, Salopian and Three Tuns plus a cider in ok condition. The pub was a wee bit quiet for a Friday evening especially when a minor England international footy match was being shown.

Not much change since my last visit , the pub has just had a bit of a tidy up with the seats re-upholsterd and a lick of paint , three beers on Wadworth 6x , Oakham Citra and a decent Big Shed Battlefield Gold alongside Westons Rosie Pig Cider .
A nice friendly pub with a good vibe about the place always worth popping in when over this side of the river .
And for those who could not find the Beer Garden , its a small patio at the top of the car park .
