This is a very pleasant two room pub in a Tudor style building, just across the river in the Frankwell neighbourhood. The side entrance takes you into the front lounge, with a doorway to the left leading into the rear public bar. The lounge is a nice, comfortable room with tile and carpet floor, dark wood beams and a large recessed fireplace next to the small modern servery which fits into the angle of the rear corner of the room. A single long banquette runs under the front windows, serving a number of tables with some low stools. Old black and white photos hang on the walls and there are posters for Guinness and of Johnny Cash. A large TV screen in the front corner was showing some super naff 80’s music videos in both rooms, with the tunes just about audible in the lounge. The public bar has standard tables and chairs as well as a pool table, dartboard and quiz machine. There is a decent sized car park to one side of the pub, but as with the previous reviewer, I managed to completely miss any beer garden.
A board outside jokingly made mention of a fearsome landlady, which might put-off the casual punter, but I was greeted warmly as a stranger and noticed that the staff enjoyed good banter with their regulars. Just the three ales available on my visit – Sharp’s Doom Bar, Hobson’s Twisted Spire and a glorious pint of Salopian Oracle (£3.00), with Weston’s Cider also on handpull.
This place had a good community feel to it and despite visiting not long after opening hours, a good number of customers had already built up by the time I finished my pint. The pub is easily reached from the town centre and is well worth the short trip over the Welsh Bridge.

A beautiful grade II listed half timber building that is believed to date from the 16th century, the façade has been rebuilt since with three huge bow windows, the entrance is on the left hand side of the building which shows evidence of the original timber construction of the building. The interior has two small areas separated by a central inglenook fire place, the front space is a public bar which has a small bar counter with tiled top in the back right corner, fabric bench seating and two flat screen TV’s on the walls, the inglenook has a small log burning stove and there are genuine timber beams across the ceiling, there is also a shelf behind the bar displaying many sporting trophies. The back area is a sports bar with a tiny serving counter in the front right corner from the public bar, a central pool table and dart board on the back right wall. I have been told that there is a large beer garden out the back but I did not see it myself.
Regular ale is currently Salopian Oracle with a single changing guest beer which on this visit was Stonehouse Off The Rails. Both were tried and found to be in good condition in my opinion. A former regular GBG entry but has struggled to get in since the 2010 edition due to the excellent choice in the area.
This is a good pub with a little olde worlde character and two decent local beers, my idea of a proper traditional pub but It was worryingly quiet for a Saturday lunch time. My friend informed me that they have a beer festival around July which is held in the beer garden. If I am anywhere near the Welsh Bridge I would pop in again.

Nice little pub , smaller than it looks , very much a locals pub it is pretty friendly with decent service and friendly locals , usual tap stuff plus Salopian Oracle and Osset Silver King which was a decent pint . Its a decent enough pub for a quick pint on a crawl .

Decent locals pub just across the Welsh bridge. Central bar with a raised tap room at the back which has a pool table and dartboard along with a quiz machine and a video game machine. The lounge has a black and white timbered ceiling with tables and chairs set up round the outside and a large open fireplace that no longer has a fire. Two handpumps on the bar serving Salopian Oracle and Ruddles County. Had a pint of the Oracle which was very good. It’s a nice little place this, another one worth a visit in Frankwell.
