The Wheatsheaf is an L-shaped pub with two carpeted seating areas up the left that are separated by a central wall, and a wooden floored right-hand side where a stool lined L-shaped serving across the rear faces some tables across the front windows. The television was off and there was some background music that wasn’t necessary because it was reasonably busy with chatter during a recent midweek afternoon visit. Premium keg and Neck Oil were available alongside two banks of three hand pumps that were drawing Ringwood’s Razor Back and Forty Niner alongside a decent Bank’s Amber. The draught selection in here was almost identical to the Old Post Office that I had just visited, and then I saw the barmaid from the OPO walk through, so putting two and two together it seems plausible that these two leased Marston’s pubs have the same management team. There’s not much to this place, but the service was polite and out of the two I thought this was the better.

I agree with the descriptions below. This pub has been somewhat made over which is a bit at variance with 'old' Shrewsbury. The ale range is dull too with a pint of Marston's Lancaster Bomber barrelling in at £3.50 a pint which seemed quite pricey. It appeared to be ok but I'd spent an evening being bored to death with the stuff at Oxford's Victoria six weeks earlier so wasn't really in the mood for it.
Not one to avoid this, but there are better pubs locally.

I utilised this one on a couple of occasions whilst staying in Shrewsbury, initially on a Thursday evening, as local musicians bring along their guitars and set up in the seating section by the left hand entrance, and as a consequence the pub was busy and had a decent vibe, and then again the lunchtime of the day after for the official Pubs Galore crawl when we found the pub inexplicably completely empty (and the barmaid only too happy to see us) and the whole thing a bit flat.
The interior is small but light and airy although a bit corporate as mentioned below. I didn’t mind the brick wallpaper in the small snug section at the back, which for the record is actually different old suitcases rather than bricks, but perhaps it works better in subdued lighting at night.
I cannot disagree with the comments about the ale range though. I had gone for the Lancaster Bomber the night before which I didn’t like and went for the Banks Amber on the subsequent visit which was OK but not a patch on the same beer in the Loggerheads.
I would recommend a visit here of an evening when the local musicians are performing on their guitars, otherwise probably not.

This pub looked very inviting from the outside, along with a decent looking pub sign, which I spotted on our approach. I thought the interior décor was rather bland and the seating uncomfortable. Some framed pics of Shrewsbury town centre and the railway station around the walls didn't bring it together either. I went for the Lancaster Bomber, which wasn't the best, the original recipe has been altered from how I remember it.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wheatsheaf
From the exterior advertising, I was expecting this to be a gloomy music pub, but the latest refurbishment is in a surprisingly light, modern style that is perhaps more suited to the town centre's semi-pedestrianised area. As a seemingly unbranded Marston's house, there was a modest selection from the brewery's range on four of the six handpumps, including Brakspear Gravity (£1.65, half).

A modernised shoppers' pub, with lots of grey paintwork and a distinct lack of character. Ales were from the wider Marston's range but condition seemed variable to say the least. Rather disappointing and there are much better pubs nearby.

The PuG crawl went direct from The Whatsheaf in Frankwell to this Wheatsheaf and it was downhill in more ways than one.This is a Marston's tied house with an unfortunate makeover making it both twee and uninviting.The strange brick wallpaper doesn't help,it's also very corporate and despite being split into sections ,the lack of customers tells a tale.
The barmaid was chirpy enough but the 6 handpumps only offered Brakspear Gravity,Marston's EPA,Banks Amber and Lancaster Bomber (NBSS 2,dull and malty)
I would swerve this pub in future,if you must drink from the Marston's portfolio there are better examples in town.

Oh dear, this pubs beer selection has badly gone awry. Still beers from Marston's but the handpulls have been reduced and you now have bog standard Marston's beers. A let down nowadays.
24/11/16:
A good pub. A small corner pub with a single room. 8 handpumps on the bar with beers from Marston's, Fullers, Banks, Brains, Titanic and Hook Norton on today. Just the one telly and no jukie. Quiet and relaxed on this Thursday afternoon visit. 8

This is a nice old building, well preserved though not, as far as I know, with any original features worthy of note. It has multiple rooms but has been opened out somewhat. There are bare boards near the bar but carpets elsewhere. There were numerous hand pumps but just four beers available at the time of my visit: Wychwood Dirty Tackle (a seasonal beer), Hobgoblin, Banks's Bitter and Marstons EPA. It was fairly quiet for my midweek midday visit, apart from the background music.

Very nice pub well worth a look in but could not stay long because of the smell of the cooking think the fryers want cleaning the place was blue with smoke it was a pit had half very quickly and left
