The Royal Oak is a decent looking pub and our first pub on our attempt to do all proper pubs in the town.
Once inside there is single oblong shaped room which is divided into two halfs, the bar is on the right side, this area is carpeted and all tables were laid out for diners, the left side is in what looks more like a proper dining area so all tables were laid out here, this just left the bar stools for proper drinkers like us to sit on.
There were four real ales on the bar all from Wadworth brewery,i had a drink of Wadworth Henrys IPA which went down very well, the other Wadworth beers were 6X,Swordfish and one i forgot to write down.
The service was pleasant enough but this is not really a proper pub anymore.

Almost entirely a restaurant however there is a squeezed area by the barcounter that is available to sit at with a drink and one side at the front is a bit less obviously for dining but the chairs are still fairly uncomfortable wicker seated jobs at tables. There are a couple of T Bars and four handpumps with mainstream ales from Wadworths and Marstons (Hobgoblin and Brakspears) in very good nick it must be said and the service was also spot on. A low ceiling and beams show what's been lost here in making a pub not a pub anymore.
