The George is an old coaching inn, which still offers accommodation. There is a carriage parked up outside.
The public bar at the front is still fairly traditional. Upon entering, I asked if I should take a seat for service. What I presumed to be the landlord said that I could be served at the bar. "That's what this is for", he said. In normal times, I'd find this sort of comment to a passing tourist quite amusing. But service at the bar is against regulations during the pandemic. So, I was a bit taken aback.
My Loose Cannon Abingdon Bridge was a nice beer. Although, I suspect it was the first one out for the day. Sharp's Doom Bar is the other real ale here.
This could be a decent place. But it's currently letting itself down.

Ancient coaching inn with a hansom cab outside, you don’t see that very often. Characterful interior, clocks and brasses. Nicely busy and a vibrant, convivial atmosphere. Four ales - 6X, Butcombe Bitter, Brakspear Bitter, West Berks Father Thames (pretty good). Accommodation offered. Could have easily settled in for a session here, a little less upmarket foody than the Fleur and more of a drinkers feel. My favourite of the three we did in Dorchester that evening.
