Much the same as below, this is still a beaut, owned by the church as opposed to Greene King as the other two pubs in the village are. A cosy, tiled bar area to the left on entry with a large open fireplace occupied by a modern stove, breweriana dotted around, carpeted dining to the right either side of a further fireplace stack. The odd original beam is exposed and a choice of Butcombe Bitter, Wadworth Bishop's Tipple and Rebellion Roasted Nuts. £4.00 for a pint of the latter, but you don't mind paying a little extra for the ambience. Smallish beer garden area out front which ends at a brook that runs parallel to the road running through the village. Friendly landlady in situ for 10 years and happy to chat ticks another box. Surprised Brakspear never got their hands on this one, but that's got to be a good thing...

Charming country pub and the best of the three in the village. The ale selection is good as you'd expect from a freehouse, and I can also attest to the food being exceedingly good, having previously worked in Chalgrove. Despite being located opposite the very different beast that is The Crown, a twee air is exuded, exemplified by the family of ducks pottering around the edge of the pub's front garden.
