A community-owned village pub mere minutes from Junction 7 of the M40. You enter to the side of the pub via the car park into a choice of two-rooms: to the right, a newly extended dining area, and to the left, the main bar area, oblong-shaped, with the small, dark-wooded bar up against the far right-hand corner. The area is part-wooded floor, part flagstoned, with the former exposed stone now whitewashed over. Some old photographs of the village hang on the wall to the right of the bar, and to the left is a large fireplace which takes up most of the wall. To the left of this, a high table housed a large screen TV (switched off) both of which blocked a doorway which appeared to have led to the former front entrance. The two ales on offer were Sharp's Doom Bar, and a local brew in Philsters 66-50 (brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of England's World Cup victory), a pint of which came in at a bargain £3.20 and was in excellent shape. I found the bar area rather sparse and soulless, but the local ale more than made up for this, so a reasonable '6' in my book.
