A pubbier alternative to the 'round the corner King Arms. This appeared to be in transition on my Sunday evening visit as an area to the right on entry was a building site with work surprisingly going on at that time of the week. You enter into a thin room with a small portion of bar at a rough 45-degree angle to the right (the ales are located here). An open doorway leads to a squarer room which holds a pool table to the left, a continuation of the bar, albeit squared off, and bench seating at the rear. Sharp's Doom Bar, Loose Cannon Abingdon Bridge and 'Gladiator Cider' (8.4%!) on the pumps. The Loose Cannon was decent and £1.90 for a half. Management was friendly and locals harmless and this wasn't a bad swerve from Oxford centre. Will be interesting to see what all the alterations surmount to, so a definite revisit on the cards.
