Quinno _ left this review about The Plowden Arms
An upmarket gastropub which has justifiably good reputation for its food and retains a certain amount of pub charm. Basic layout is a large dining room, smaller separate bar area, a function room and a nice garden. Traditional country pub interior with black beams, exposed brick walls etc. Two ales, Brakspear Bitter and Ringwood Boondoggle (the latter was in decent form). Ate here and can confirm the high quality of food and service; succulent lamb sweetbread for starter, spinach pie for main and a truly exceptional cheeseboard for pud (how often are they pedestrian? Five cheeses on here, and proper good ones too) – and was worth every mouthful. The other seven in my group tried a good range from the menu and there was praise all round for each dish, a real rarity. They also have a penchant for reviving old recipes from the past. So as a pure pub you can perhaps take it or leave it but as a pub dining venue it’s one of the best (the best?) in Berkshire and my score reflects that.
