This pub was doing a very good impression of being closed down during our stay in Faringdon and every time we walked past it was shut with a large “To Let” sign protruding from the front wall.
Well, every time that is until just after midnight on Saturday night when it was open with a couple of bouncers working the door and a queue of Farringdon youth, half of which did not look old enough to have short and curlies, stretching down London Road.
A quick glance inside saw all the furniture from the single room space piled up in one corner and bright young things vertical drinking alcopops in the rest.
Clearly someone taking the opportunity to make some money out of a pop up night club until this one invariably gets turned into a restaurant.

Close to the town centre, the Wheatsheaf is a single room pub in a wonderful old building. On entering there was nothing by way of a welcome - indeed the atmosphere was unfriendly, the greeting bordering on hostile. Inside, it was barren, shabby and very run down. The clientele were, at best, rough trade. There was no real ale on, so I had a pint of megakeg and left to seek the sanctuary of one of the better pubs nearby. I can't see my wanting to return unless things change dramatically and I wouldn't recommend this pub to anyone who wanted a decent pint or a good night out.
