Komakino’s review, below, gives a good indication of what to expect, the pub apparently having changed little since GK took it over from John Barras. The baying, lager-swilling football crowd was present, many of them in the outside partially-covered terrace with its fag-end flooring and TV screen which could be heard from the equally scabby car-park. The staff were over-worked, and one was embarrassed that both the Tribute and GK IPA ran out as she was trying to pour our drinks. The only remaining ale choice was Abbott, which was average at best. The remaining keg choices were Guinness, Madri, Peroni, Ice Breaker and 3 from Thatcher’s. There was a pool table, multiple TV screens showing football, and a bank of gaming machines. The floor looked like old lino, but it probably wasn’t that posh. I can’t imagine wanting to come back.

Carterton's busiest pub, conveniently located on a crossroads in the centre of the town, this was packed with locals on a Sunday afternoon, all baying over the numerous screens showing a Premier League game, one of which is located over the entrance, making entry a little unsettling (combined with over-the-top Halloween paraphernalia all round the pub). A John Barras house, the ale options were limited to 'Gangly Ghoul' and Belhaven Bridge to Nowhere. The latter was £1.85 for a half, but was undrinkable, however, being unable to get myself re-served due to a baying half-time lager crowd, I cut my losses and left. They offer a 10% discount to Camra members, so I'm sure that'll cushion the blow for someone...
