This freehouse's pub sign has the shape of a lion comprised of cutlery, which gives you an idea of the primary focus here, and it was busy with diners on a Sunday afternoon. There's a decent enough ale selection, though, if you forget the Tribute and London Pride: the other options being Bootleg's Urban Fox and Inveralmond's Thrappledouser, both of which were in superb shape. The two-sided bar serves the restaurant area as well as a smaller 'snug' room, containing three tables, one of which was commandeered by four diners, and the generous beer garden was thronged with people enjoying the July sunshine. There was some seating outside front on the pavement, which in a quiet village was no great shakes and offered some shaded respite. Well worth a revisit for the ale alone, but if the weather were any less than fair, you'd probably feel in the way.
