Will Larter left this review about The Black Lion Inn
A large pub for what seems a very quiet village. Getting here by bus is a bit of a nightmare, but I made it all right, arriving as the quiet period at the end of lunchtime food service begins. The interior, of what would have been at least four rooms, has been opened out into an open space with substantial pillars instead of walls. The whole space is occupied by dining tables, with a few token high chairs near the bar for drinkers (including one labelled as "for John Smiths drinkers" in remembrance of a deceased octogenarian called Mick. I didn't see anyone drinking John Smiths. There are three cask beers on, Landlord, Red Feather from local Welbeck Abbey and a beer labelled as Bloody Good Pale, which I was told on enquiry is brewed by Bateman's. I went for halves of the two local-ish beers - I reckon the BGP is Yella Belly 3.9% (NBSS 2.5, £5/pint). The Red Feather was a little better (NBSS 3.5, £5.80/pint). Neither would encourage a return visit, especially given the very limited public transport options.
