We called in here when staying at Edwinstowe - it was our "warm down" ride after cycling from Sheffield. The pub was surprisingly busy, with plenty of people obviously haven driven out here on a Friday evening to "warm down" after their week at work. The small building seen from the green where the famous maypole stands is extended back some distance, so there is more room inside than initial impressions would suggest. We entered from the car park, but found a bit of a scrum between the two rooms, with the back room too crowded to get to the bar, but a number of people standing in the passageway to the front bar, where it was relatively quiet.
There are four hand pumps on the bars, with Wells Bombardier, Maypole Old Lions, Oakham JHB and Woodforde Bure Gold. Not being in the mood for a blonde, I went for the Bombardier, which was in good condition. We probably arrived at the wrong time of week to appreciate this pub, whose finer merits were somewhat obscured by the slightly desperate need of the Friday evening crowd to let their hair down. It would be interesting to see what it's like at other times, as I think this is probably quite a decent village local.
