Will Larter left this review about The White Swan
A large pub, with two rooms accessed from the single front door. Lounge to the right and a larger tap, or public bar, to the left, with the bar counter against the back wall and a prominent fireplace midway along the front wall, topped with a nice relief of a swan with rushes (see photo – notice also on the exterior shot how the chimney is too big for the building to support, and has been buttressed on one side). Although there were two hand pumps the solitary pump clip was for a cider, so I had a choice of John Smiths, Worthington or Theakstons Dark Mild. (I forgot to ask if there is any cask beer on at weekends.) I went for the last named which was cold but acceptable. There were eight or nine regulars of a similar age to me, or even older, and one of them spoke up, saying it's always the same old crowd in here. I guess that was his way of saying I don't think I've seen you before, though it's possible he just hadn't realised I was a total stranger. I told him about my mission to visit as many pubs as possible that I'd never been to before, and my trip out here on the bus from Sheffield via Chesterfield to do this and the Nags Head. He wished me an enjoyable pub crawl as I left. I liked it here, but without any real ale there was little incentive to stay for another.
