A delightful but isolated pub, covered in vines, with the interior like ceilinged with exposed joists. The walls and bar are wood panelled and there's a big stone fireplace with a solid fuel stove. Seating is mostly settles and window seats, with some small tables in the middle of the room. A dining room in in an extension at the rear, along with the very modern toilets.
There are five hand pumps with two of the Hexamshire beers, brewed behind the pub, plus a cider. The Northumberland County IPA and the Tyneside Pale were both very good (NBSS 4).

Well worth a visit, as this is the home of the Hexamshire Brewery. Serves home cooked food, very friendly landlord with a good hearty laugh. I enjoyed the Devils Elbow, Devils Water, Shire Bitter, Whapweasel, Old Humbug and the Blackhall English Stout. Will defo call again.

Good bar meals. They have their own Real Ales. "HEXHAMSHIRE BREWREY".
The Shire Bitter that I tested today [25/10/08]was excellent.
On the 11/11, I tested the "Devils Water"
EXCELLENT.
