A strange place this. It looks like old peoples' homes from the front and it took us ages to find the pub's car park, which is off a completely different country lane to the rear from where you approach the pub through woodland and the building looks much grander than it did from the front.
Whilst this pub does serve meals, late on a Sunday afternoon it had more of a feel of a drinkers' pub. There was a dartboard in use and there are a couple of TVs. One was showing a live FA Cup football match, with music also being played. Both children and dogs are allowed in and accommodation is offered.
The room is carpeted, with horse brasses on beams and some old black and white pictures of the local area on the walls. To the rear of the pub, there are some nice outdoor drinking areas in the woodland, including a children's play area.
The cheery barmaid looked too young to be serving, but that's probably just my age. With 4 handpulls, there was only one cask ale which was Hadrian Border Farne Island. Beavertown Neck Oil was on keg. The cider was Strongbow.
An unusual, but pleasant village local let down a little by its paucity of cask ales.

A curious place in low rise buildings, offering accommodation and surprisingly large inside. The bar area has the feel of an old time hotel but perhaps that is due to the tartan carpet, fake beams and horse brasses. A restaurant and family rooms sit behind while at the rear are extensive gardens and a kiddies play area. It is all quite pleasant and low key but I was the only customer on a weekday lunchtime. Two cask ales from Hadrian were on offer - Farne Island and Tyneside Blonde - and condition was acceptable. Note that car park access is down a long drive from Windyside Hill, the next road over.

Only for the pub sign out front, you wouldn't know this pub was here as it looks residential. Once through the doors I spotted the small bar on the right hand side. Three ales on hand pump from Hadrian and Border, so I went for the Coast to Coast, which was ok. The downside on my visit was the miserable barman, who told me he couldn't stand real ale. Wow! that was a nice initial welcome. The next barman to take his shift was a lot more upbeat. There was a massive beer garden out the back.
