Strongers . left this review about The Dolphin
To the right of the entrance to the Dolphin is a raised seating area with views over the bridge and across the river, prime seating for those who like to people watch. To the left of the entrance is the bar area with a serving counter that faces high tables that run across the front windows and up the left-hand wall to a small rear seating area with a blocked up fireplace on the rear wall. Steps either side of the counter lead up to the toilets and another room at the rear that was lights out. On the recent Monday evening I visited there was some background music playing and all the televisions were off, but live sport is advertised so expect football when available. There were a dozen people in the pub, but the seating outside under a jumbrella was more popular with all the tables being full with tourists.
Standard and premium keg were available from the bar alongside Beavertown’s Neck Oil. The five hand pumps were drawing a couple of ciders alongside Butcombe’s Rare Breed, The Dolphin Pale Ale (?) and Salt Beer Factory’s Merino Juicy Pale Ale. The service was laboured, it was easy to see that the two barpersons didn’t want to be there. For a pub in such a prime location I was left a bit disappointed and will walk past next time.

A real tourist trap right by the swing bridge. 2 beers and 2 ciders on when I visited. I went for Bradfields Farmers Blonde which was fine.

This place seems designed to attract tourists and wealthier local people. It's certainly in a good location on the river and inside is an open plan room that wraps around the bar counter. Most of the furnishings are tall but I managed to find a low table and chair in one corner.
Two of the six hand pumps had cider at £4.00 a pint and both were kiddies strength of 4.0% and 3.8%. If I had to make a list of beers that I didn't want to come across in a pub these would all appear on it, Marston's Bass and Wainwright, Wychwood Hobgoblin and Doom Bore. I went for the Wainwright (£3.75) which was expensive and about as good as it's ever going to be.
I can only assume this place is GBG 2018 listed for the branch to make up their quota of pubs. I certainly wouldn't return.

Nicely refurbed pub next to swing bridge and overlooking the river there is a patio are to the front street.
Smart central bar area with space around it in a donut and a back room.
Its location means its popular.
Seems to combine food, drink, Sky Sports and its environment effortless.
Beer choice and quality is excellent.
Really well thought out place.

Not a review, just some information. The Dolphin closed down last year and has reopened under new management and has, apparently, had a refurbishment.
I have no idea what its like now, but rumour has it that it now has real ales.
I am due to visit Whitby later in the year and will try to pop in so I can review it.

The pub sits nicely by the swing bridge and river.
The exterior is a nice brick build dating to 1912. It also has a patio area. The interior is large and open plan, a little past its best, with some sofas, that perhaps look a little grand for the place. The patio alsways seems crowded, so the place is popular
It is a pub for those that do not really care about beer, just a drink in general. There are no real ales, just the fizz and bland bitter.
Therefore, i wouldnt recommend it, but i am sure if its fizz you want, then this may be good enough for you
