Old Boots left this review about The Fleece
A square brick built detached pub, probably dating to the 1930s. Open plan inside in an L shaped room the counter is Lshaped but partly faces the rear of the pub. At the rear is a quayside patio. On the left of the pub is what would have been a small snug with its own door off the entrance vestibule. It retains some charm with banquette seating at wooden tables, board floors and Frank Meadow Sutcliffe photos, the wall is partly in tongue & groove and there’s some stained glass which add to the ambience. It also helps that the three handpulls are in this part, my Whitby IPA was pretty good. The main section is more modern and its length of counter has one of the two horseshoes of fairly ordinary kegs. Its across the road from the Endeavour and fairly close to Quirky Den and the Green Dragon so a reasonable choice round these parts.

Strongers . left this review about The Fleece
To the left of the entrance of the Fleece is an L-shaped bar counter that faces seating along the rear wall and a small seating area done up like a drawing room to the left. High tables are found in the right rear and out the back is a waterside decked terrace that looks upon a jetty that was piled high with crab/lobster pots, so yes it was a bit fishy. Standard keg was available alongside Birra Moretti and Heineken. The three hand pumps were drawing Whitby Brewery’s IPA, Wainwright and Black Sheep. Coba and pasties were also available from a display case on the bar. The service was efficient, if not the most welcoming, and the tourists all decided to queue single file from the counter through the pub. I walked around them all and was served straight away on the drawing room side of the bar that was empty. What is wrong with people these days??

A neat pub across the river from the touristy bit. Outside decking over the river for those sunny days (it wasn't). Good views across the river from the main room. Changing beers on the two handpumps including a Whitby one. Friendly staff and dogs give this one a nice atmosphere. My pint was in good nick and Ms CAMRA liked her wine, so no complaints at all, it's a good pub and I'm sure we'll visit again.

Back to front pub with the bar at the rear facing the harbour. Room to the left of the bar. Three weak real ales, the rest keg.

Another decent pub just away from the tourists. 3 beers on including Whitby Saltwick Nab and Abbeydale Moonshine. The moonshine was a good pint. Glad I called in.

Getting out of town, but on he river with views from the larger of the 2 rooms, which is more of a locals/family space with a pool table. A tidy pub that benefits being away from the main centre there is a smaller snug on the roadside part that has been tastefully refurbed following last years flooding.
Nice pub & worth trying. 3 real ales, including a local Whitby brewery offering. The beer is slightly too warm & would have been an 8.
