A single room traditional pub, named after Captain Cook’s ship and the décor is a mix of nautical and dracula murals plus aphorisms painted on beams. Furnishing is a mix, banquettes fore and aft with a couple of posing tables plus lower tables and chairs. The counter is on the left as you enter and houses six pulls, two on Rosie Pig, two beers from Three Brothers, Taylor’s Landlord on another and a house brew called Endeavour Explorer, brewer unknown on the final wicket. Low and mid end kegs on a couple of triples plus a Pravha solo. Less manic than some Whitby pubs, there are various ways inside to contribute to the RNLI.

The Endeavour is a small single roomed pub with banquettes under the front windows to the right of the entrance and a coal fireplace on the right-hand wall for colder months. A standard table followed by a high table followed by a beer shelf continue up the right, a journey of pint support evolution. The serving counter is found on the left wall where two banks of three hand pumps are supported. During a recent quiet late Monday afternoon visit these were drawing TT Dark Mild and Landlord, Purity’s Mad Goose, Three Brothers Northern Pale Ale and a couple of Rosie’s Pig cider offerings. Beyond the counter in the left rear corner is some raised seating that is faced by more banquettes to the right. There was some background music playing and the barmaid was very polite and welcoming. I liked it in here, it was probably the best pub I visited on this side of the bridge.

A decent one roomed pub across the river from most of the tourists. Very dog friendly, in fact pretty friendly all round. No food is served, but you can bring fish & chips in from the nearby chippy. At least 6 customer were eating which made us feel rather hungry and the whole pub smelt like a chippy. 4 cask ales available, but nothing very interesting, so uninteresting that I failed to note what was on. I do remember it was a decent pint though. Not one of Whtbys finest but I would call in again next time.

Basically a one room pub with the bar to the left. More seating to the rear. Six weakish hand pumps - the strongest was Hobgoblin. Quite noisy on Saturday afternoon.

Enjoyed our visit to this 2019 Good Beer Guide pub. Chose Leeds Samba from the ales available and it was fine.

Reasonable pub slightly away from most of the tourists. There were 4 ales and 2 ciders on when I visited. Oxford gold, Hobgoblin, Golden Hen and Endeavour ale(presumably a rebadged beer?). The 2 ciders were Old Rosie and Flat Tyre. Not the most exciting choice but still a choice! I was glad to have called in.

As noted below this is a single open plan rectangular room with a fireplace to the right and the bar on the left. It was quiet on my February Wednesday afternoon visit. Although there are six hand pumps two were devoted to cider and the other four had a very dull mainstream choice of Sharp's Sea Fury, Jennings Cumberland Ale, GK Abbot and Wychwood Hobgoblin. I went for the Cumberland (£3.70) which was OK but exorbitantly priced.
The only good thing about this place for me was the friendly chatty barmaid. It's GBG 2018 listed but I can't see why.

On the wrong side of the river and going down the wrong street for the tourists and all the better for it. Relaxed atmosphere, its a bit of a big empty space but still feels comfortable & warming, especially with the real fire going. Slightly obstructed view of he river thanks to a car park, but its location adds to the nice feel.
3 real ales, Black Sheep, John Smiths & Harvistoun.

Occupying a position close to the town centre and the river ( just across the road ) is The Endeavour, a pub named after Captain Cook’s trip to the South Seas
It’s a pleasant, open plan, single room, comfortable traditional pub with padded fixed seating, leaded windows, curtains and fake looking black ceiling beams. The walls are decorated with various maritime memorabilia, much of it Captain Cook related. We learn that the pub was formerly The Imperial Inn and, even earlier, was a Temperance Movement establishment. At the far end, on the ceiling, are a number of guitars, reflecting the fact that the pub hosts regular folk music sessions, normally at weekends.
4 real ales were on, which included John Smiths Cask and Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted. The pub is a CAMRA Good Beer Guide regular, but I didn’t detect any noticeable interest or commitment to real ale.
Whitby has a good number of fairly decent pubs, which, whilst not being outstanding in any particular way, I would happily revisit when next in the area. The Endeavour comes firmly into that category

Yes well worth a look in called back after a couple of months the Landlady could remember us as if we was in every other night that counts a lot. The Ring Wood bitter was on Good form
