Sitting in the middle of this village (once a town) is this rather nice old pub, owned by the eponymous brewery which started here before moving to larger premises in Selby. The interior is very tidy and brightly painted, with the front room holding the bar and a good fireplace, a side room containing some shelves of books for borrowing, a middle area with a piano and some musical kit and a large back room with a pool table, dartboard and TV screen. There is a patio to the rear. A bank of 6 pumps serves mainly their own ales, unsurprisingly in excellent condition. Food appears restricted to special nights only and the regular entertainments seem popular with the locals. Note closed Tuesdays but late night opening on some other nights. There are a few parking spaces outside but parking is generally tricky in Cawood - try by the river. All in all a pretty good pub and one I shall return to.
