Probably now the closest pub to the station, a last resort when leaving town. Single room, wide at front with long, thin, tail suggesting the usual ill advised refurb somewhen along the way. Dreary kegs only but decor is interesting proving every pub is worth at least one visit.

Small locals' pub under railway bridge as described below. The guest beer at time of visit was from Jolly Sailor brewery, but sadly in poor condition.

The Malt Shovel is just down from the Railway pub but in sight as it is on the other side of the train bridge.
Once inside there is an oblong shaped room which runs to the rear, the bar is on the mid right side, there is bench seating to the front with small stools, there is a pool table to the rear.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of York Guzzler which was a very nice drink, the other beer was John Smiths Cask.
There was some decent background music playing and a real fire was on the go,the pub was very busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I quite took to this pub,one i could well stay in for a session if not on a pub crawl.
