Old Boots left this review about The Golden Lion Inn
Now reopened after a short closure to carry out the first part of a makeover; basically new wall paper, new pictures and a darker paint job, everything else much as before. Still six pulls, four beers on but a more pedestrian choice of two from Greene King (Abbot and Old Golden Hen) plus one each from locals Theakstons (Old Peculiar) and Black Sheep (Bitter). Decent beer quality on the Black Sheep.
August 2021
Under different management to the last update, no food offer so more emphasis on beer. Although a Greene King badged pub the cask range of five is mainly from Yorkshire breweries, usually Hambleton Nightmare (their best beer by far) often White Rat and Cornwall’s St Austell Tribute seems to be a fixture. I’ve never seen any GK swill in here. There’s a couple of big screens but on Freeview not Sky and piped music but otherwise a class traditional pub. One of the best in a fairly boring town beerwise.

Old Boots left this review about The Golden Lion Inn
Long white washed pub situated between two chip shops near the old workhouse. A large single bar with several distinct areas where walls have been removed. Certainly not a gastro-pub or restaurant as such but the emphasis is towards food. Pedestrian choice of beer, Greene King IPA, Old Speckled Hen, Theakstons Best and Black Sheep bitter, all competently kept, normal fizzys are also available. Bland decor, not much atmosphere, a Little Chef of a pub.
Spring 2010 update
Looks like new management, and various changes for the better I'm pleased to say. The decor is not so harsh, there seems less emphasis on food and the beer tastes better.
