Will Larter left this review about The Castle Inn

This is a small traditional pub in a distinctive building with some nice features: the wood panelled bar and fireplace, and the bench seating in tiny corners next to the fireplace opposite - presumably a separate room at one time. There are three hand pumps on the bar, with just two beers on: Caledonian Deuchars IPA and Ossett Blonde. I went for the first named, but would I have known the difference if I'd gone for the Ossett instead? I liked this place more for its character than its beers, and I wouldn't mind coming back if I find myself in Knaresborough again.

A change of name and some different beers otherwise pretty much the same, it is Knaresborough after all. For the record they had two from Marstons (Boondoggle and Razorback), Black Sheep Holy Grail and Saltaire Blonde, not sure which change probably the same breweries but different beers.

Pub is just as described by OB, so I won't bother. Lots of older regulars in on our Wednesday afternoon visit plus a bunch of younger guys who looked like they were just starting a big night out. 3 handpumps on the bar and my pint of York Terrier was in decent nick.

July 2012 Update
Now three cask beers on, John Smiths plus Abbot and a guest (York Guzzler this time)

Very small, cosy pub with a panelled and brassware strewn interior, slightly scuffed but a pleasant friendly place. The main part is quite traditional with bench seating, bare boards and the brassware. Décor is old photos and lots of miniatures and old bottles as well as the brass. Oddly shaped there are a few little nooks and crannies, and a couple of open fires . The back of the room is furnished with armchairs and there is a big screen. Beers from Tadcaster, well kept John Smiths cask plus Stella, Guinness, Strongbow, John Smith Smooth as expected and also San Miguel.

Alan Winfield left this review about Castle Vaults

The Castle Vaults is a small pub in the middle of Knaresborough.
Once inside i went in a smallish room at the front which had bare boards and a cosy feel to it.
I thought there would be more beers on here but there was only John Smiths cask which was a decent drink,i thought this was a fairly decent pub and was quite happy having a drink in here.
