Graham Coombs left this review about The Black Swan

A good-looking old pub in a village on the fringe of Harrogate but also on a traffic cut through, which has tried to go upmarket and gastro but not quite made it. It all looks a bit swish, with lots of posh dark wood and tasteful furnishings, but doesn't seem to have the clientele to match, at least on a Saturday afternoon. It has been opened out with some remains of dividing walls leaving quiet corners and feels a bit too tabled for diners, despite most of the customers just being there for a drink. There is a huge garden at the rear - more of a field really. Ales on were TT Landlord and Theakston's Best, in pretty good condition.

Old Boots left this review about The Black Swan

A stone built with upper half timbering, Victorian building in a well heeled part of Harrogate. Inside there's an open plan space with three areas divided by chimney breasts, there's a mix of high, mid, and low tables and chairs mostly for eating at. One side has a couple of leather armchairs and to the left the floor level is down a few stairs to a more cozy eating area and there's a very large garden beyond that. Four pumps, one is spare, the others with a unimaginative but safe cask choice of Black Sheep Bitter, Theakstons Best Bitter, and Taylors Landlord in ok condition although rather pricey for the area. A mid range keg choice is also available. The interior has a strange indistinct ambiance; it's sort of modern in an oldish setting, but tastefully done; perhaps they're slightly confused about what they should emphasising. The decor is an eclectic mix of pictures. There is free wifi from BT openzone.
