Whatever you think of the vagaries of the owner, Sam Smith's are sitting on some splendid pubs and this is one of them. A highly traditional old-school village local with lots of dark woodwork throughout its 4 or 5 connected rooms. The bar counter in the front room is now just for decoration with pumps removed, but the little bar in the back is fine. Just OBB on handpump of course but mine was in good order. The limited food menu is also old-school pub stuff, definitely not gastro, and fairly priced. Outside there are a couple of tables on the front forecourt and more at the back by the large car park. Bus stop exceptionally convenient!

Ancient looking quirky interior, multiroomed Sam Smith's pub in a posh village near Harrogate. There are low ceilings and old timbers, plain walls, settles and benches, carpeted floors rather than flags which would add to the inherent charm of the building. It even has Yorkshire sash windows at the front. Friendly staff and a great village pub atmosphere only the poor beer quality lets the place down.
