I really liked this lovely old red brick building, with its slightly down at heel look. It's one of those symmetrical buildings that is pleasing on the eye, and stepping through the portico to the entrance hall brings the even more pleasing staircase into view. There's a door to a restaurant on the left and the bar is through the door on the right, with steps down to the pool room in the wing beyond.
The bar servery is of modest proportions, and stands in one corner, with an extension into the pool room. It featured three beers on its four hand pumps at the time of our visit: GK Old Speckled Hen, Isaac Poad 1863 and All Hallows Peg Fyke Dark Mild. The last two named were new to me, so we gave them a try and they were most enjoyable. A small group of locals was stood at the bar and made us feel welcome. We had wanted to call in earlier when we were out cycling, but the pub doesn't open until 4pm, so we drove back here after leaving our bikes in Beverley. I was glad we did, because the pleasant building, cool interior and very good beer were just the thing after a bike ride.
