A restaurant masquerading as a pub, it’s a grey painted building near the sea but table service only and entirely set out for dining. In spite of four cask ales of various provenance I made my excuses and left when approached by some waiter chap.

When I was here six months ago they were still operating a table service, though they did allow me to approach the bar for a quick look at the three pump clips. As a hotel with tables largely set up for diners, I suppose it suits them to maintain table service, but to me it just makes the place feel even less like a pub than it looks. To be fair, it's smart enough after what I guess was a fairly recent refurbishment, with new floorboards evident. Though I guess the money was running short so the tables are veneered chipboard and the loudspeakers have a brash and tinny sound, or maybe that's just the music they prefer. Anyway, enough of the criticism and on to the beer. There were four hand pumps with three local ales available: Wolf Ale and a couple from Tindall. I had the Wolf and the Tindall Lifeboat Pale, which were both priced at £4.50 a pint. Unfortunately my notes made at the time don't mention beer quality, but I guess the fact that I stayed and had a second beer suggests that the first one was at least ok.

Small hotel catering for food trade and felt like it. Tidy enough but not a pub atmosphere.

More of a family restaurant than a traditional pub. On our visit, there was an overwhelming smell of fish and chips as the place was full of families eating away. The pub was modern in style with feature walls wallpapered. There were four ales on the bar, two from Adnams, one Woodfordes and one from Growler.

Prime position on the front although it was closed in January. Recently renovated and very comfortable. A good selection of real ales. Food was standard pub grub no complaints but it didn't set the taste buds alight
