This is a large roadside Fullers pub and hotel on the busy Uxbridge Road. The pub is split across a number of areas, with the main bar to the front in a bare boarded room full of pew and table seating under attractive wall panelling and dark wood beams. The servery has a pleasant curved counter with a smart panelled front, matching gantry and plain bar back enlivened by a small pump clip collection to one side. A selection of board games are available on a dresser next to the main entrance and the walls are decorated with a few local photos, Fullers breweriana and an oval mirror above a very dark fireplace. A small space to the left has enough room for a couple more tables, including a large one with banquette seating in a front window bay, and from here you can reach a narrow side room which had a big TV at one end and rows of tightly packed tables and chairs, all reserved in readiness for the afternoon's England game. A couple more areas appear further back, each with limited seating, but outside there are ample benches to chose from, much of which is alongside the busy main road.
Not too much choice on the bar sadly, with Fullers London Pride appearing on the pumps no less than four times (£5.50 a pint) with ESB the only other cask option. The staff were a bit curt and I got unceremoniously turfed off of a table in the football room, despite there still being over an hour left until it was needed.
This is quite a nice, multiple room pub that's been spruced up by the Fullers interior design team and has lost a lot of character as a result. The ale range was very limited for a Fullers house and the miserable service was a big disappointment too, but I may have just caught it at the wrong time. Definitely some promising signs here, but I'm not sure I'd make the trip out of Uxbridge for this one again.

A proper Olde Worlde inn, steeped in some history (some say Charles I stayed here) with a warren-like maze of interconnecting rooms, lovely almost ceiling-high wood panelling and cosy touches, such as numerous fireplaces, uneven wood flooring and tired old rugs. A Fuller's house, so limited to London Pride x 2 and HSB on the pumps, with a few further options in bottled form in the fridge, including London Porter. There's an area towards the back of the pub set out primarily as a restaurant which links to the rest of the pub, but there's no truck with grabbing a peripheral table should the bar seating all be commandeered (as it was on my Thursday night visit). A surprise find and surprise to be the first to review and although it's not a must-visit, it gets an extra couple of extra points for its style above its substance.
