Still a nice pub though the real ales are an uninspiring choice of Nationals. No more fish either as the pond has been filled in.

Nice pub. Has wide selection of real ales to satisfy Camra types. Nice beer garden with pond and some impressive fish.

4 unused pumps on the bar indicate a reduction in the ale range here. While that still leaves 6 in use, 5 are pretty mainstream (I remember Deuchars, Landlord & Abbott for example), but the 6th was serving up Trapper's Hat from local micro Brimstage - I gather it's a regular.
The pub itself is pretty large with plenty of seating (and a fair amount outside as well). The Ship draws a good crowd and has always been busy on my visits. Televised sport is an attraction for many of the regulars.
One of the best options on the Hoylake strip. While these days the ale selection is somewhat eclipsed by The Hoylake Lights just down the road, The Ship is a classier proposition.
